Short paths to lucrative careers

Traditionally, the collective train of thought around creating a successful career has included obtaining a four year degree or beyond. 

But today brings a shift. Through a combination of the fear of insurmountable educational debt, the “great resignation” movement, and “results now” attitudes, other paths are rising to the surface.

Whether it’s fresh high school graduates, fresh empty nesters or fresh retirees, the excitement of being a new learner only grows with the realm of options in various fields such as:

Medical: “Technician” is the keyword. In a couple of years, you can be a: Radiology Tech, Physical Therapy Tech, Occupational Therapy Tech, Vet Tech, or MRI Tech. (Also available are shorter-term licenses such as LPN (Licensed Nurse Practitioner) or CNA (Certified Nurses Aide.)

Technology: Cybersecurity and network support are two of the most in-demand fields as security threats toward small businesses and major corporations to infrastructure and municipalities are climbing. Other related options are web development and computer service and repair. 

Industrial/Mechanical: Things need to be built and things need to work: Productive careers are growing in aviation tech, auto collision repair, and construction technician fields.

Gaming is coming out of the basement and into the mainstream. Two-year programs are available in design and development and could open doors to expanded jobs in animation or special effects. 

Fire science and law enforcement: Public safety careers can be achieved quickly. These include titles of Firefighter, Police Officer, Emergency Medical Technician, and Paramedic. (Some require supplemental certification.) 

Agriculture and the Environment: Agriculture goes well beyond sitting in a tractor. Opportunities to shape the future of farming and environmental causes exist in the form of farm management  along with solid foundations in natural resource management and wildlife biology fields.

Self-care: Self-care and wellness are more important than ever, opening up careers ranging from cosmetology (2-year program) to massage therapy (certificate level to 2-year program) as well as yoga teacher training, which ranges from 200-hour programs and up.
