MAXIM 1: Be prepared "A general should ask himself frequently in the day, 'What should I do if the enemy's army appeared now in my front, or on my right, or my left?' If he has any difficulty in answering these questions, his position is bad and he should seek to remedy it."

MAXIM 2: If you want to be extraordinary, don’t follow mainstream consensus “It is an approved maxim in war never to do what the enemy wishes you to do, for this reason alone, that he desires it.”

MAXIM 3: Don't count your chickens before they hatch "No force should be detached on the eve of battle, because affairs may change overnight... Either by the retreat of the enemy, or by the arrival of reinforcements which enable him to counteract your previous arrangements."

MAXIM 4: Learn what your strengths are, and lean into them "Fortresses are equally useful in offensive & defensive warfare... It is true they will not in themselves arrest an army, but they are an excellent means of delaying, embarrassing, weakening, and annoying an enemy."

MAXIM 5: You can't achieve victory by yourself Find the right friends to fight with and assist each other in battle: "Infantry, cavalry, and artillery are nothing without each other; therefore they should always be so disposed so as to assist each other in case of surprise."
