There is a correct way to wash the dishes
Handwashing dishes is a lost skill with the proliferation of dishwashers in our daily lives. Many rely on the "good enough" method of throwing everything in the sink and washing each dish in whatever order. This is inarguably wrong.

Plan your process
Start by prepping the sink. Double sinks are ideal.
It should be cleaned first, then plugged, and dish soap should be added below the faucet to get the ideal amount of bubbles. Remember, it is not suds that create clean dishes. It is scrubbing power and cleani

The water should be as hot as you can stand it.
This is the best way to remove grease and create ideal sanitation. You can add a tablespoon or two of bleach if sanitization if incredibly important, but rinsing must be done with more care if you utilize bleach.

Start while the water is running.
If you wait to fill up the sink, you're wasting time and water. Begin with cutlery. Add soap to your sponge of choice. Wash all silverware and deposit in the 2nd basin. Rinse after the basin is full to save water.

Cups first - cleanest to dirtiest.
When the second basin is full, you can utilize cups to rinse the cutlery in the most efficient way. It is fine to rinse with cold water.

Plates next.
It should go without saying that they should be rinsed prior to being placed in the soapy water. Then bowls. These are often dirtier due to the nature of what you eat from them. Wash bowls smallest to largest.

Stop here and check your water. If it is darker than an overcast day, drain and begin the filling process again.

Flat pans next. Soak if need be but if you're soaking longer than 20 minutes, you're just avoiding doing dishes. Then skillets, then pots. Drain the water, clean the sink, and dry the dishes (if so moved).
