Caerphilly Castle - The Welsh Heritage

Caerphilly Castle (Castell Caerffili) is a medieval fortification in Caerphilly in South Wales, United Kingdom.

In 1268 CE, Marcher lord Gilbert de Clare constructed the biggest castle in Wales — second only to Windsor in Britain.

Massive walls, towers and gatehouses were combined with water defences and covered a total of 30 acres. The rise of the Prince of Wales, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, was the "inspiration" for the creation of the castle.
