Timeline: The Stormy Daniels Scandal

1979: Stephanie A. Gregory (later known as Stormy Daniels) was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was raised by a single mother in what she describes as a "bad neighborhood", even going without electricity at times.

1996: 17 year old Stephanie was hired as a stripper at Gold Club in Baton Rouge, and went on to became a featured entertainer with Continental Theatrical Agency, and chose the stage name Stormy Daniels.

2004: Throughout the early 2000's Daniels appeared in numerous adult films and won the Best New Starlet Award from Adult Video News. She also got small roles on TV shows like Dirt and in films like The Forty Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up.

2006: Daniels met Donald Trump at a celebrity golf tournament and they began an 11 month affair. In 2011, Daniels did an interview with In Touch Weekly where she publicly divulged details of the affair for the first time.

2011: Outside of a fitness center in Las Vegas, Daniels was threatened and forced to sign a non-disclosure agreement regarding the affair with Donald Trump.

2016: 1 month before the US Presidential election, Trump's attorney Michael Cohen paid Daniels $130,000 to stop her from discussing the affair. Meanwhile, Trump and Cohen denied everything. The Federal Election Commission investigated them for campaign finance rules violations.

2018: On August 21, Cohen pleaded guilty to eight charges including illegal campaign donation for his role in the payment to Daniels. He was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Cohen stated that he acted "in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office".

2019: The Trump Organization is subpoenaed for records related to the hush-money payments. The House Judiciary Committee investigated Trump's involvement with hush payments to both Daniels and Playboy model Karen McDougal.

2023: The Manhattan district attorney's office presented evidence to a grand jury regarding Trump's role in the payment. Cohen gave his cell phones to the DA's prosecutors, which had evidence including communications and voice recordings of Daniels's former lawyer.

March 30, 2023: A grand jury voted to indict Donald Trump on 34 charges of business fraud. For the first time in U.S. history, a former president was arrested on April 4, 2023. He pleaded not guilty to all charges of falsifying business records.
