Is Dance a universal language?

All right, maybe not literally, but metaphorically, yes. You see, dance has the power to break any language barrier and speak a story through to people. How, you might ask? Let me explain.

Dance, no matter the form, can:
express strong emotions, tell a story, express ideas or thoughts, and so much more just through refined, thought-out movements.

So, maybe you got skeptical and Googled, "Is dance a language?" Now, if you and I are using the same type of Google search engine, you probably received a detailed explanation on why dance is, in fact a language. Do you believe me yet even with Google in on it?

Perhaps you are still doubtful and decide to put this to the test in the real world, and although I don’t recommend executing this stunt, you might go up to a passerby on the street and enthusiastically express to them that you speak dance.

Let me go a little deeper. In my case, I’m extremely familiar with ballet, as I was a ballet dancer for the first 11 or so years of my life. Personally, I think ballet is one of the most understandable forms of dance, especially if you are familiar with it.

On the other hand, I know absolutely nothing about hip-hop. Actually, let me correct that. I knowalmost nothing about hip-hop. Although I am not familiar with this dance form, I do know that just like any other kind of dance, it also breaks any verbal language barriers.

Many people are fairly familiar with contemporary & lyrical. From my personal view I believe these are the most universal dance forms, which can express incredible amounts of emotion as well as paint a clear picture of practically anything.

So again, even though dance may not literally be classified as a language, it has the capability to break verbal language barriers and touch people's hearts.
