What started as a YouTube channel in 2010, has today become one of India’s leading names in the ed-tech space. Owned and operated by Sorting Hat Technologies, Unacademy was founded in 2015 by Gaurav Munjal, Hemesh Singh, and Roman Saini.

When Unacademy was yet to be incorporated and functioned as a YouTube channel, Gaurav was an engineering student in Mumbai. After he completed his studies, Gaurav worked as a software developer at Directi.

Along with Unacademy, he is also the founder of Flat.to, a company that was later acquired by the firm Common Floor.

Hemesh is an alumnus of Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology whereas Dr. Roman has been a medical graduate who proceeded to crack the UPSC exam at the age of 21.

Despite this, he went on to quit his government job to join Unacademy and teach underprivileged students online.
