Started as Newshunt by two ex-Nokia employees, Umesh Kulkarni, and Chandrashekhar Sohoni in 2009, the formerly Symbian app was acquired by Virendra Gupta in 2011. In 2015, Virendra renamed it, Dailyhunt.

Today it has become one of the top Indian regional language content providers, including content in languages such as Hindi, Kannada, and Marathi among others.

When Newshunt was acquired by Virendra in 2011, he was the founder of VerSe Innovation. The venture was started as a value-added service (VAS) company that would provide SMS alerts to its subscribers over jobs, matrimony, property, news, and education.

Virendra completed his B.E. degree from Jodhpur’s MBM Engineering College and has a Master’s degree from IIT Mumbai School of Management.

The other two co-founders, Umang and Chandrashekhar are Pune University alumni, with Umang having pursued a General Management Program from the Harvard Business School.
