If COVID-19 has taught us anything, we don't do great as humans being isolated. We just do better being with others. Even introverts need a little companionship to keep us from feeling completely alone and at our worst.

Humans were made to need each other. Cavemen gathered in groups. Indians lived together in tribes. Colonials traveled west in groups. Survival and life are better when people do it together.

This has been the case for ages. Even the stories from the Bible indicate this from Adam being lonely and desiring the companionship of Eve to Jesus starting his ministry by going out and getting 12 friends to hang out with while he did it all. Life is better with friends.

And look at the superhero movies now. We have moved away from Superman and Spiderman who may have people they cared about but were really aloof, solitary creatures out saving the world.

Now the Marvel movies have our heroes all interacting, leaning on each other and working as a team. And we love them even more for it. And not only are they more endearing to us, they are stronger. They can accomplish even more. Together they can achieve more and do more.

And they are funnier! Watching them interact and bounce their humor off each other is hilarious. They can put each other down faster than they can use their superhuman skills. Their wit is incredible and better the more of them there are.

Community makes superheroes, and humans, better as they are forced to admit weakness but also able to build their strengths as they lean on others' strengths. They become better on their own merit and through each other.

It's time we learn from all the superhero movies that have come out over the last several years and realize how much we need community. And just like the numerous superhero communities, ours can look however we need it to look. It just has to meet our needs.
